RENTING WITH PETS

We Brits are a nation of pet lovers. Walk around anywhere in London and there’ll be someone walking their dog - and sometimes their cat!

However, renting with a pet is not always easy in London. It can depend on the following:

- what kind of pet you have, e.g. a large dog in a small apartment

- the number of pets you have

- some landlords are happy to accept a pet but the superior lease of their property forbids it

However, in general, if you rent a house (especially with a garden), in most cases pets are welcome. In addition, since the pandemic more landlords are open to accepting pets.

In London, in recent years, we’ve seen a growth in build-to-rent apartment blocks that are pet-friendly.

The Rental Reform Bill which is currently (Q3 2024) being discussed in Parliament also aims to ban landlords from not accepting pets.
